Treating Varicose Veins with Vitamins and Natural Supplements

Vitamins for varicose veins are important element in preventing and treating this condition. They are especially effective when used in addition to other treatments such as compression stockings. Keep in mind that if you do decide to have surgery for your varicose veins, you need to let your doctor know about any supplements that you are currently taking. Although natural supplements are not often known to have ill effects, especially those available for mass distribution, some have been found to interact badly with other medications.

The Letter of the Law

The most important varicose vein vitamins to take regularly are A, C, E, B6, and K. In addition, bioflavoniods and fiber are also important for overall health. Most people know that citrus fruits are high in vitamin C, and vitamin C is essential for the human body to heal. Vitamin A is also know as retinol and this can be found in many fruits, vegetables and even in dairy products. A few examples of vitamin A foods are broccoli, carrots, sweet potatoes, eggs, and milk. Vitamin A helps the body to heal also and aids in the process of cell regeneration.

Vitamin E is fat soluble, and is an important varicose vein vitamin because it protects the body from free radicals. Free radicals can damage the body's cells, and have been linked to cancer. Vitamin E is found in many nuts including peanuts and almonds, as well as in fresh fruits and vegetables such as mango, kiwi, and raw spinach. Vitamin B6 is important for the immune system and for cellular growth, and because of the damage to veins caused by varicose veins, vitamin B6 is useful. This vitamin can be found in lean meats and fish, peanut butter, chick peas, bananas, as well as many other sources.

Vitamin K is important for both blood heath and bone growth, and is known to aid coagulation of blood. This important vitamin is found in many food forms such as broccoli, mayonnaise, and parsley. Bioflavonoids are found in deep red food items such as raspberries, strawberries, wine, and grapes. Bioflavoniods are important varicose vein vitamins because they are thought to strengthen the cell walls of the veins and capillaries.

Fiber is important to every diet, because it cleans the body of impurities and causes less strain to the body as a whole. Whole grains, fresh fruits and fresh vegetables are terrific and reliable sources of fiber.

In addition to taking in the proper varicose vein vitamins, drinking plenty of water and avoiding salt will help to alleviate the symptoms of varicose veins and improve overall health. Water is essential for the body to strengthen and heal itself. While the body is able to maintain hydration with a variety of liquids, drinking water the majority of the time is thought to be best, to avoid the additional sugar and sodium in other beverages.
