Dealing with an Unplanned Pregnancy

Expecting a baby is the happiest time in a parent's life; however, it can be a bit difficult if you were not planning for a new arrival at that time. Depending on the case, dealing with an unplanned pregnancy can be both difficult and stressful.

Making a Decision

Unplanned pregnancy may put you and your partner on the spot of taking the most difficult decision you will ever have to make - to have or not the baby. This decision is something every single couple should discuss, understand the responsibilities and take together.

If you decide not to have the baby, the termination of the unplanned pregnancy should be scheduled as soon as possible to avoid any complications as the further into the pregnancy the more developed the fetus and subsequently more problems can occur during termination.

However, if you decide to keep and welcome the unplanned pregnancy there are many plans you both need to start making as soon as possible as well because you have less than nine months before you have a whole new responsibility in your hands for the rest of your life.

Planning the Arrival of Your Baby

An unplanned pregnancy can be a joyous event even if it did not work as per your timeline, so the key is to stay positive and plan in detail. Finances is the fist thing you should consider as that is where the most strain will show therefore, make a budget in advance and stick to it no matter what happens. Every time you want to make an exception remember you have a baby coming and that should get you back on track right away.

The baby will need a room, clothes and some essential furniture to start with, which again should be thought before hand and bought in advance. There are many second hand places where you can get items in great condition at unbelievable prices. You can stock up on some great bargains to get you through the first couple of years.

The local newspapers or online sites like Ebay are a great place to look for second hand items for infants such as cribs or strollers, which cost a lot when brought brand new.

Helpful Tip

Last but not least you need to prepare yourselves mentally and somewhat physically for the arrival of the baby. A baby is a lifelong responsibility, which will bring a lot of joy but will require great care, loving and hard work in order to bring him or her up. What started as an unplanned pregnancy will in the end be a great source of happiness for both you and your partner and you both will reflect proudly on these hard times and how well you dealt with it.
