Dermabrasion is not helpful where the scar is sunken or pitted. Liposuction may be useful in removing fat around a sunken area, making the scar seem like less of a depression in the body. Self Help Therapies There are several therapies that patients can try on their own to reduce the appearance of an unsightly scar .Silicone gel sheets can flatten, fade, and soften red scars. The sheet can be cut to the exact size of the scar, and patients can wear these self-adhesive sheets under clothing. The sheets can also improve the elasticity of the tissue. Research indicates that these improvements in the scars are permanent. |
