Finding the Perfect Toddler Table and Chairs for your Child

Toddlers have an interest in getting themselves on and off of home furniture like sofas, beds, and chairs. Often they get hurt climbing on home furniture. Providing them with a toddler table and chairs of their own helps them to play safely. These items can be a great tool to use for teaching proper table behavior, so that when your little tyke moves to the adult kitchen table he has learned skills like sitting still and using good manners. A toddler table and chairs can actually be considered a part of your child's early education and training.

Buying a Toddler Table and Chairs

When you are shopping for a table and set of chairs for your toddler, make sure you pick items that are sturdy first and foremost. Inspect the chairs of the set you are considering very closely to ensure that they are not designed to tip backwards easily on your child. Pay special attention to the safety and durability of the furniture. It is always best to go for high quality kid furniture like Eddie Bauer or Pottery Barn if your budget allows. Furniture crafted of wood has a certain charm to it, but thick plastic chairs also make a good choice in sturdiness as well as safety. One thing to keep in mind as you shop is the size of the toddler table and chairs. Toddlers grow fast, so it is a good idea to buy items that are a little bigger than your child. This will make it possible to use them to use the set for a few years before your child outgrows the set.

Seating Options

Today, some toddler tables are constructed with built-in seats for one or more kids. This provides the toddler table and chairs in a single structure, with a height that can be adjusted as required. The number of seats in the set varies from single seated sets to eight seats to a single table. One option would be to provide each child with his own personal table and attached seat. However, a junior toddler table that provides seating for four might be a better choice for some families. It gives a team of toddlers the opportunity to share and interact with one another.

Making the Toddler Table Attractive

You can make the toddler table and chairs more attractive for your child by arranging his favorite toys on top of it for playtime. Toddlers are attracted to bright colors and designs, and a few well-placed objects will spark his interest and draw him to his tabletop. You may choose to paint the table top in a color to coordinate with your child's room, or embellish the set with painted animals, butterflies or stenciled dinosaurs, depending on your tot's tastes.
