Tips To Help Quit SmokingTake Up a New Hobby Needing to do something with your hands, or needing something to distract you when cravings strike, are two things that will be challenging in the early days. In this vein, an excellent tip to help quit smoking is to take up a new hobby, or resurrect an old one. Aside from distracting yourself from cravings and restlessness, an additional benefit is that with something new and interesting to do, you're less likely to be restless or crave a cigarette in the first place! It's even better if the hobby is health and fitness related, and something you probably wouldn't have engaged in prior to quitting smoking. That way you can really notice the improvement in your health and fitness over time. Reward Yourself Another great tip to help you quit smoking is to treat yourself every now and then. Each week, put aside the money you would have spent on cigarettes. You would have been used to spending the money anyway, so you won't really miss it. Once a month, or even a little less frequently, dip into your slush fund and do something out of the ordinary that you otherwise wouldn't have been able to afford. Keep a "Quit Calendar" Keeping a quit calendar' is an excellent motivational tip to help you quit smoking. From the day you quit smoking, mark it and every subsequent day with a cross. Having things visually represented not only reminds you of how far you've come, but if you're tempted to digress you can see how much good work you'd be putting at stake. Don't Think You're Invincible One of the most important tips to help you quit smoking and stay a quitter is that you should never think you're invincible. If you expect too much of yourself, it will be doubly difficult to bounce back if you have a setback or two along the way. Better it is to accept that there are going to be setbacks, and know how you're going to deal with them. These tips to help you quit smoking will hopefully help you quit for good. As long as you stay focused on why you've quit, and think about all the benefits, staying a quitter will be that much easier. Sure, it's hard, but it's not impossible. All it takes is a bit of forward planning, and a lot of common-sense. |
