Causes Of Throat Ulcer

A throat ulcer is a condition of the throat where lesions form in an individual's throat and cause pain and discomfort. There are several causes of throat ulcer and there are also some effective treatments of these. Swallowing and also speaking can be an ordeal for those suffering from throat ulcer. Eating is also inconvenient for those who have ulcers at their throats and one may experience some weight loss when suffering from ulcers at the throat.

How Throat Ulcer Develops

There are some diseases that can cause the development of a throat ulcer. Herpes simplex is one of the viral diseases that one gets which can cause cold sores in the mouth area of an individual. This is a contagious disease which can be somewhat painful for those suffering from it. Treatment for the throat ulcer that develops due to herpes simplex consists of antibiotics and a mouthwash that can help maintain cleanliness of your mouth,

Oral thrush is also defined as a candida infection of the oral cavity and some of its surroundings. The condition that can cause throat ulcer in a person is usually seen in infants, the elderly and people with a weakened immune system.

Herpes Zoster is also known as shingles and is often defined as a reactivation of the chicken pox virus in an individual that only affects certain areas or sides of the body. If the herpes zoster is concentrated on the head, specifically around the band of the chin or neck area, you can expect lesions to form throat ulcers in the throat and some lesions also in the neck area. Usually, herpes zoster or shingles affects the elderly but can also be activated in those with a weakened state or those who suffer from stress.

Throat ulcers can be dangerous in the sense that if there are too many of them there might be an inflammation of the throat which can restrict breathing. For throat ulcers that are really painful or "thick", seek medical attention rather than risk not being able to breathe properly when the lesion become more inflamed.

One is sure to lose some weight when you have a throat ulcer and it is certain that you will also have some degree of difficulty when talking or just swallowing beverages. Anti-inflammatory and antibacterial medications will come in handy for the management and treatment of a throat ulcer. Doctors might also recommend a solution for gargling to help quicken the healing process of the ulcers.
