Are You Spotting After Menopause? How Bad is This?

You need to understand menopause before going any further and recognize it from its early symptoms. Menopause when defined is often termed as complete cessation of menstruation. In other words a woman stops ovulating after menopause (confirmed only after the cycle stops for 12 consecutive months) and as such would not be able to bear any children.

What Do You Understand About Spotting After Menopause?

Spotting is a term given to the time when you find you have extremely minute vaginal bleeding; in fact this type of bleeding leaves spots on the undergarments worn. Bleeding, whether it is more or it isles, is still bleeding. So, what do you make out when spotting after menopause happens? Very often this is nothing to worry about as this could be the result of the hormonal fluctuations in the body. Such spotting would have no other symptoms accompanying it.

When spotting is accompanied by acute abdominal or vaginal pains, you need to see a doctor at your earliest. This could mean you have developed uterine cysts or fibroids among others. A proper diagnosis in time would save you a lot of trouble in the long run. In case there is nothing to it, the spotting after menopause would in time cease and never bother you again.

When is Spotting After Menopause a Danger Signal?

Generally speaking spotting after menopause is normal and would end very soon uneventfully. However, there are times when spotting after menopause could be a danger signal that your body needs instant medical intervention. Check for the following accompanying symptoms - there are other discharges along with the spotting; there is itching and foul smell; there is a burning sensation when you pass urine, among others.

In case you develop any of the above symptoms, you need to immediately check with a doctor. It could be a minor infection that could be fixed with a few medicines and proper personal hygiene; or it could also be something very serious such as cancer in its different forms or any such terrible disease and this could be the danger signal waiting to be discovered by you.

Women above 35 years old are advised to have a complete medical check ups every two years and after you cross 45, you are advised to do so yearly. However, very few women follow this advice and if so, such symptoms should never be ignored.

A word of advice - never take it for granted that you know what is happening in your body. There are many things that look innocent but can be fatal if ignored. Hence, if you ever experience spotting after menopause, make sure you visit the doctor and find out why.
