Daily Struggle With Severe Lower Back PainWhat Causes Severe Lower Back Pain? One common question people often ask when they have severe lower back pain is, "How did this happen?" or "What did I do?" Sometimes, it is very obvious, such as with heavy lifting or furniture moving/rearranging. People tend to over exert themselves without properly preparing to lift these heavy items. In order to protect the lower back when lifting, the knees should always be slightly bent, and the strength of the legs should be used to lift, instead of the upper body. Remaining upright while lifting will help prevent injuries and strains to your back, as well as help you gain muscle strength in your legs at the same time! Who knew moving furniture could be so healthy? Severe lower back pain can cause a variety of symptoms, including the inability to walk for some. Many people have reported a pinching sensation in their back, while others have said the pain radiates all across the entire lower back. Performing simple stretches on the floor can help to alleviate some of the pain once you are able to lie down. Your doctor or chiropractor should prescribe these exercises, as they can help with the pain, but also help to strengthen your back against further injury. Having a strong abdominal area is a key to prevent lower back problems, so exercise is very important in these core muscles. Other types of severe lower back pain can also occur, most often in women during their menstrual cycles or during pregnancy. It is thought that fluctuating hormones play a role in this, as well as general fatigue or inflammation in the abdominal region. Over-the-counter medication is often suggested, such as Aleve or ibuprofen, yet minerals such as calcium and magnesium often work just as well or even better, without any side effects. Massage therapy and chiropractic care of also good choices when it comes to finding relief from the daily struggle of severe lower back pain. |
