Why Men Are Found Reversing Vasectomy

When a couple chooses vasectomy as their contraceptive, they have more or less decided that they need a permanent solution. They are advised about the difficulty (and many times failure) of reversing vasectomy, which allows them to make an informed decision, knowing the risks involved. Nonetheless, about ten percent of men come back with a request for reversing vasectomy within five to ten years following the surgery.

Reversing Vasectomy - Is It Possible?

The good news is that it is indeed possible to be reversing vasectomy today with the help of modern technology and state-of-the-art equipment which enables the micro-surgery required for this procedure. But why should the couple seek reversing vasectomy after they made an informed decision years back?

There are many reasons that can bring about the wish of reversing vasectomy. The most common ones are:

* Death of a child

* Imminent death of a child

* Re-marriage of man

* Spontaneous wish to have more kids

For those who did not know, there are two ways of reversing vasectomy, both requiring micro-surgery. This means that the procedure would require the surgeon to perform the surgery under special microscopes which make the correct stitching of the tiny tubes possible. The two procedures are, (a) Vasovasostomy - which involves the re-connection of the vas deferens tubes which were cut for the vasectomy, and (b) Epididymostomy where the reversal is more complicated as it involves the connection of the vas deferens directly to the epididymis instead of the other end of the vas deferens.

The latter procedure involves a lot of expertise and care so that the channeling of sperm becomes successful post-surgery. Whichever the type of surgery adopted, the man will not be required to stay more than two to three days in the hospital.

The success of the procedure depends on a number of factors, i.e. the surgeon's skill and experience, the equipment used, the age of the man, and the time elapsed from the vasectomy. Each of these factors can become crucial in the reversing vasectomy process.

With the changing of times and the advent of hi-technology equipment and computerized machinery, it is possible today to reverse a procedure which some ten to fifteen years ago would have been unthinkable. Today, thanks to the technology development, awareness, and proper dissemination of information, people go for reversing vasectomy without any fears of failure, and the success rate further confirms and supports the belief.
