Everything That you Need to Know About Your Prostate Gland

There is much that needs to be understood in regards to the prostate gland, and so if you are interested in learning about the prostate gland in general then you are going to want to take into account the fact there is much information that you are going to have to understand and take into consideration.

What is the Prostate Gland?

Basically the prostate gland is an exocrine gland of the male mammalian reproductive system, and although the prostate gland is relatively similar between all male mammals for the most part, at the same time it differs between species anatomically, chemically, and physiologically as well. Basically the main function of the prostate is to store and secrete a clear, slightly basic fluid that constitutes up to one-third of the volume of semen.

Semen is incredibly important here, as it is composed of sperm and seminal fluid, and about 10-30 percent of this seminal fluid is produced by the prostate gland, and then the rest is produced by the two seminal vessels. Furthermore, it is the prostate which also contains some smooth muscles that help to expel semen during ejaculation.

In order for the prostate to work properly overall, it needs male hormones which are responsible for that of male sex characteristics, and as well it should be known that the main male hormone is testosterone, and this is produced by the testicles, for the most part. As well, some male hormones are produced in small amounts by the adrenal glands.

Thus from this we can see just how incredibly important the prostate is overall, and so it is very important for men to make sure that they get into their doctor on a frequent basis so that they can have their prostate checked out and so that thus their doctors can keep an eye on them in this regards and let them know whether or not there seems to be any sort of problem here.

Prostate cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer of all, and this just proves even more how incredibly important it is for men to get themselves checked up regularly by their doctors, in order to make sure that they are healthy and that there are no problems in regards to their prostate, or any other part of them as well for that matter.
