Power Yoga Blends Two Aerobic ExercisesPracticing yoga enhances health and contributes to the happiness of the individual. This process aids towards achieving the ultimate goal of life which is enlightenment. The rationale behind the various postures performed is to discipline the body and mind for long periods of meditation. There are various styles of this discipline that fall under the general category of yoga; one such style is power yoga. When considering these separate forms of yoga, it is important to understand what this type of yoga is, the associated benefits and who can be best served by this discipline. Definition Power yoga is a blend of two aerobic types of exercises that combines with the uniqueness of yoga's meditative breathing. The first aerobic exercises are stretching calisthenics that loosen the muscles, tendons and ligaments. The other aerobic exercise incorporates the strengthening of the muscles. These types of exercises, both stretching and strength building, could be the standard push-up, hand stands, touching the toes and bending from side to side. Added to the mix, is the pace in which these exercises, as part of the power yoga discipline, are performed. The escalated pace is intended to increase perspiration and intensity of the aerobic experience. In addition, the exercises of power yoga are designed so that each new aspect of the yoga exercise program flows naturally into the next aspect of the exercise program. In other words, power yoga consists of strong yoga movements coupled with deep meditative breathing that is accomplished at a quickened pace.
Benefits of Power Yoga There are four basic benefits to the practicing of a power yoga program. Those benefits include the intense engagement of all muscles of the body through the performance of the muscle strengthening exercises. In addition, in keeping with the goal of performing yoga, the muscles are not worked separately, but in concert with one another. In addition, because of the stretching components of power yoga, the benefit of flexibility is achieved. This flexibility is experienced through the movements of power yoga with the benefits received by all parts of the body especially the tendons and ligaments. Another wonderful benefit of power yoga is the intensity of the aerobics workout that is received. Because this is a power routine and the pace is pretty intense, the heartbeat and need for oxygen is intensified. This combination allows for the cardiovascular system to be strengthened through the intensity of the power yoga routine. Above all, the routine is not a mindless workout, but fully engages the brain through purposeful meditation. This process is realized in that each movement is completed with acute awareness, full intent, methodical breathing and with the mind that is completely at ease. Considering Power Yoga When considering power yoga it is important not to be frightened off by the intensity of this discipline or the description of this type of yoga with its label of power. Power yoga is recommended for any student who is participating in any level or method of yoga. |
