A Pilates Exercise Program Fits all Age Groups

Exercise has always been recommended in order to achieve a healthier life by maintaining appropriate weight and body strength levels. Exercise not only tones your muscles and maintains your weight, but it also improves the quality of your life by doing so.

However, many of us cannot follow some or most the exercises today due to one reason or another, such as no time to go to a gym, an exercise pattern is found hard to perform, or you don't like to exercise because it hurts or is boring.

Getting to Know Pilates

Pilates was introduced in 1926 by Joseph Pilates, a German by nationality, who invented this exercise especially for those who were ailing but still needed to exercise in order to keep fit.

A Pilates exercise program is designed to work with your mind in order to control your body. The core' is the main strength in your body, which is formed of your abdomen, back, and pelvis muscles and through them you learn how to exercise your entire body and mind. Stretching, elongating and strengthening are all done through the core' of your body, making your main section strong while shaping the rest of the body as well.

Pilates does not require any weights at all or any other sophisticated machine in order to drive results. Pilates exercise program options will bring you desired results if you follow and practice the exercise with regularity of at least three times a week for at least a half an hour.

Pilates Equipment

In order for your Pilates exercise program to be successful you will need comfortable clothes in which you can stretch and practice with ease without the clothes being tight and holding you back from performing the exercise with ease.

Bare feet are usually recommended in Pilates but if you insist on wearing something on your feet, ensure that it is a pair of shock absorbent trainers. Besides all the above, you will need a Pilates mat and you are ready to start your Pilates exercise program.

Learn Pilates the Right Way

Any Pilates exercise program is easy to follow, however if you follow it wrong it may not deliver the desired results and can also hurt you in the process. Therefore, ensure you learn Pilates the right way and that is with a qualified Pilates instructor and/or a professional DVD for beginners.
