Obesity appears to be an epidemic in the United States, and the problem is not limited to one age group. Elementary school children are obese, and the obesity facts about this age group are startling. There are small children in the primary grades that are obese in greater numbers than ever before. Some people are born predisposed to obesity. These people are born with genes that makes it easy for them to gain weight and difficult for them to lose weight. These people eat too much and do not exercise enough to maintain an appropriate weight.

Obesity facts provide a greater understanding of the problem which should lead to better treatment of the problem. People that gain weight at certain periods in their development have a more difficult time losing weight later. People who cannot deal with stress in their lives turn to food for comfort. People who eat junk food have a greater chance of gaining too much weight. A greater understanding of the problem should help more people deal with the problem of obesity.
