Mouth Ulcers: Women Are More Prone Than Men

Mouth ulcers or canker sores as they are also referred to as are sores that cause a lot of pain and which are mostly of a red color and which also have white coating and they occur in the mouth in different parts including inside a person's lips, inside his or her cheeks and even on gums as well as below the tongue. They should not be confused with fever blisters or cold sores because these occur on the outside of the affected person's lips and they are also not of a contagious kind.

Young Teenage Women

Another feature very noticeable about mouth ulcers is that young women that are still in their teen years or early twenties are most prone to suffering from this condition and even though the exact causes behind such sores are not as yet known, they could occur because of unhealthy nutrition, stress as well as because of being allergic to certain foods, and also because of menstruation.

When mouth ulcers become severe, they can grow to a size that is at least an inch in width and there may also are scarring and it is also normal for sores to erupt in more than single numbers and they will generally take two weeks before they heal. The good news is that mouth ulcers are not something that you inherit even though certain family members may all have the condition, and such episodes of canker sores may even occur once or twice in a year, though in other instances they may occur most of the time.

The reason why mouth ulcers develop could be attributed to an allergy to certain bacteria that are present in a person's mouth and it could also occur because a person has an allergy to certain foods. Also, the condition can be caused because of a person's immune system failing and even deficiencies in nutrition can cause mouth ulcers.

Mouth ulcers are also known to be more evident in the case of women than in the case of men and a possible reason for this could be the female sex hormones and also because of when a woman is menstruating, canker sores may break out and the best means of treating such a condition would be to undertake hormone therapy.

To get relief from mouth ulcers, you can use anti-inflammatory rinses and even uses benzocaine to get relief from the pain. There no doubts that mouth ulcers are very painful and when you eat or drink as well as brush your teeth, you will end up irritating the sores and it is also a good idea to abstain from consuming salted foods as too acidic foods and those that are spicy. Even when brushing your teeth, you need to be careful that you don't end up injuring the sores further.
