Is A Mini Tummy Tuck Procedure Right For You?

Many people are aware of the term tummy tuck and the results that occur with this surgery. This procedure is done by making a large incision across the abdomen and a second smaller incision is made by the belly button. These incisions are made in order for the surgeon to remove fat and repair muscles in the abdomen. This surgery works well for many patients, and they see the results that they want after the procedure.

There is another surgery, a mini tummy tuck procedure that can also be done, for patients that may qualify.

What A Mini Tummy Tuck Procedure Is

A mini tummy tuck procedure may be recommended by your plastic surgeon. The mini tummy tuck procedure really involves just the lower part of the abdomen and may be a better solution than a full tummy tuck.

A mini tummy tuck procedure is done by making a small incision near the pubis. The doctor then is able to remove excessive fat and repair damage to the lower abdominal wall. A strip of skin, about one to two inches long is removed and the skin is stretched to cover the incision. Often during a mini tummy tuck procedure liposuction is also used. The belly button is removed so that when the skin is stretched, it will then be put back in its proper place.

A mini tummy tuck procedure works well for patients that don't have a lot of excessive skin and fat that needs to be removed. For patients that are close to or at their ideal weight this is a good procedure as again, they don't need a lot of fat or skin removed in order to obtain their desired look. Patients that are in good health and have elasticity to their skin are also good candidates for the mini tummy tuck procedure.

The cost of a mini tummy tuck procedure is also another beneficial issue to consider. Since this type of surgery is not as long as a traditional tummy tuck, the cost can be significantly reduced. A patient doesn't need to be in the surgery room as long or under anesthesia as long either, helping reduce the cost of the surgery.

The recovery time is also quicker with this type of surgery and that is of course a huge benefit to patients that are considering a tummy tuck. A mini tummy tuck procedure may be the best option and patients need to discuss this surgery with their plastic surgeon to find out if it is the right one for them.
