Lexapro and Insomnia: How to Manage Insomnia

Not being able to sleep could be very irritating, especially when you are tired and stressed out. In most cases, you will feel grumpy and dizzy after a couple of nights without sleep. As it is, your performance at work could suffer and if you are driving, you could really get into some serious troubles if you happen to dose off behind the wheel.

Due to the increasing number of people who find it very difficult to sleep at night, many pharmaceutical companies have come up with drugs that could help people get some sleep. However, where there are a number of pills in the market that could put you to sleep, there are also types of drugs in the market that could actually keep you wide-awake at night.

Over the year, lexapro and insomnia have been connected together because of the fact that most people who have taken this drug ends up suffering from insomnia. According to experts, lexapro is one of the most effective drugs for treating depression especially in children and adolescents. Unfortunately, lexpro and insomnia seem to have become so closely associated that when you think of lexapro and insomnia, you immediately associate it with cause and effect where lexapro becomes the cause of insomnia.

Are Lexapro and Insomnia Really Inseparable?

If you have been taking lexapro, chances are, you don't really suffer from insomnia while you are still taking the drug. Studies have shown that only when you stop using lexapro will insomnia set-in. So technically, it is not the taking of lexapro which causes the insomnia, but rather the withdrawal from the drug would cause insomnia. Studies show that lexapro and insomnia could be lumped together in the category of withdrawal syndrome.

We must understand that if a person has been taking lexapro for some time to help him or her cope with depression, the drug accumulates in the body of the user. When the user stops taking the drug, a withdrawal syndrome usually occurs because the body will need to adjust to the fact that the drugs have been withdrawn from the system.

How to cope with withdrawal from lexapro?

Withdrawal from lexapro and insomnia are two things that you need to address at the same time. To be sure that you will not be suffering from disorder after another, it would be a good idea for you to discuss with your doctor first before you start taking lexapro as anti-depressant drug.
