Kundalini Yoga Uses Mind and Body to Communicate



A medicine discipline, Kundalini Yoga comprises a set of simple techniques which make use of the mind, senses as well as the body to form a communication that focuses on psycho-spiritual growth. It also evaluates the potential of the body for maturation with special emphasis being placed on the role of the spine and endocrine system in comprehending yogic awakening.

Concentrating on psychic centers also known as charkas in the body, Kundalini Yoga generates a spiritual power that is called kundalini energy. Kundalini itself is the latent form of life force that is mostly dormant in the body and thought of as being a coiled up serpent from which the Sanskrit term kundalini (coiled up) originates and lies on the base of the spine which may be able to spring to life when activated by spiritual disciplines.

Kundalini Yoga practice is made up of a number of body postures, expressive movements as well as chants, characterological cultivations, patterns of breathing as well as concentration to a high degree. According to scholars, none of these postures as well as movements is to be thought of as being stretching exercises or gymnastic exercises.

Relatively new in the US

In the United States, Kundalini Yoga is quite new and was only introduced to the West Coast in 1969 when Yogi Bhajan came from India and began to teach people and like other yogas, there is a link between movement and breath. The main point of difference between Kundalini Yoga and other forms of yoga is that there is direct focus on moving energy via a charka system that stimulates the energy in the lower charkas and moves to higher charkas.

 



There are seven charkas (or energy centers) that are located at the bottom of the base of the spine and end at the top of the head. There is also an eighth charka that is known as aura and is an electromagnetic field that is believed to strengthen through practicing Kundalini Yoga by awakening energy in the spine through activation of nerve channels that are there, intertwined.

The underlying philosophy of Kundalini Yoga is that of an intensified life-energy that may lead a person to have spontaneous psycho-motor manifestations that may be interpreted as being signs of psycho-spiritual growth and maturation of the body. Kundalini Yoga is practiced universally and is non-denominational and designed for the homebody as well people who need to cope with daily challenges and stresses, raising families as well as managing work life.
