Insomnia In Early Pregnancy - Some Facts And Figures

Pregnancy is a time for rejoicing and planning for the new arrival. It is also a time when your body behaves in the most peculiar manner ever. You tend to love the foods you usually hate, and hate the ones you loved before pregnancy. You feel sick in the morning, hate any strong smell, feel infernally hot all the time and your sleep seems to elude you totally (insomnia).

All these changes are due to the sudden surge of hormones into the blood following a miracle called conceiving. Each of the signs described above are specific to early pregnancy. Some of them, as a matter of fact most of them, usually disappear the moment you step into the second semester of pregnancy.

Insomnia In Early Pregnancy Is Mostly Caused By Discomfort And Anxiety

A good number of women suffer from insomnia in early pregnancy. Though most of the symptoms of early pregnancy are due to the direct impact created by the extra hormones released in the blood by the pregnancy, insomnia in early pregnancy can also be credited to the major discomfort that women feel during that time as well as the anxiety and excitement that pregnancy brings along with it.

Most people attribute the insomnia in early pregnancy to the hormonal imbalances - while in some cases this would be true, there are plenty instances where the insomnia in early pregnancy is caused by the excitement and anxiety of being pregnant. The overall feeling can be compared with the excitement and anxiety levels of winning a lottery ticket. Since the excitement generated by the news is such, the sheer joy of it will not allow you to sleep, eat or do anything else other than thinking of the great event.

This is what happens in the majority of cases, where you will find that women, through the joy they see in their families get too excited to sleep. I mentioned a little earlier that another reason could be anxiety. Women usually feel anxious about the newness of the situation; have sudden attacks of doubt, such as what if they could not handle the baby; what if the baby is a boy? What happens if the baby is a girl?

These are some of the questions that indicate the main causes of insomnia in early pregnancy. To counteract the problem, you will have to consult a doctor since self medication would be contraindicated once you are confirmed to be pregnant.
