Insomnia And Anxiety Treatment - Some Common Facts About It

Anxiety is one of the most harmful maladies that can affect a human being. Anxiety breeds stress, which in turn creates a host of problems both mentally and physiologically. Anxiety is usually associated with perceived danger and hence, it brings about all the changes that would help the body defend/ protect itself in case of danger. This is in tune with the flight or fight' modes of reaction, in the face of danger.

The Good And The Bad Side Of Anxiety Reactions

The reaction that is triggered in the body by any perceived danger is called anxiety. The positive side of this reaction is that it helps you survive. It catapults the body into such a stage where it is capable to preserve its life. The negative side starts when this anxiety stage does not get switched off after the perceived danger has passed.

In this case, anxiety becomes a damaging factor to the body, because it keeps all the functions of the body in the highest possible readiness which in turn will keep the person in question on the edge. As a result of this, the person would not be able to eat, sleep or do any normal work without an extreme effort. Other symptoms of anxiety would be depression, acute headaches and migraine, insomnia, restlessness, acute muscle tension and irritability.

The insomnia and anxiety treatment is quite simple and efficient, provided the diagnosis is accurate. The doctor usually prescribes a tailor-made treatment taking into consideration a number of things such as the person's personality, the triggers of the anxiety bout, the underlying tensions (psychological part), and so on. Hence, it would very surprising to find the insomnia and anxiety treatment prescribed for one person useful for another, even if the symptoms would be similar.

Normally, the insomnia and anxiety treatment would involve adequate medication (that includes depression) for immediate relief from the symptoms of anxiety. This could be coupled with the following:

  1. CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) which is an amalgamation of a number of therapies specifically targeting anxiety related problems
  2. Psychotherapy which will tackles the feelings of the person
  3. Relaxation techniques which will prompt the person to short-circuit the anxiety induced state and help bringing the body's functions back to normal
The insomnia and anxiety treatment usually go hand in hand when and if it is found that the lack of sleep is actually the outcome of an anxiety attack or depression. However, the insomnia and anxiety treatment would not be as efficient if the underlying reasons were triggered by any other causes. Hence, it is very important that the diagnosis is correctly arrived at before the treatment commences.
