Infusion Treatment for Fibromyalgia: What is it and does it Work?

Fybromyalgia is a painful, chronic condition that affects many people every year. While middle-aged women make up the largest number of fibromyalgia diagnoses, men and even children are not immune from this disorder. Because the discomfort can be extreme and debilitating, the search to find relief from the painful symptoms is an ongoing one. One of the treatments receiving attention in recent years is infusion treatment for fibromyalgia. But what are infusion treatments and why do they work?

The Basics of Infusion Treatments

Infusion treatments for fibromyalgia use medication given intravenously or through epidural routes just under the surface of the skin. Within the past few decades, these types of treatments have branched out from the hospital settings to clinics and offices of health care professionals, and even to the privacy of a patient's home. This has made infusion treatments for fibromyalgia a convenient and effective choice for many patients suffering from this disorder.

Infusion treatments for fibromyalgia begin with a prescription from your doctor, and may be administered at his office, a pharmacy or in your home. There are a number of different types of infusion treatment for fibromyalgia, and most focus on pain relief as the primary goal. There are also infusion treatments for fibromyalgia that are holistic in nature, although they still need to be administered by a medical doctor due to the method in which the medication is given.

Infusion Treatment for Fibromyalgia using Pain Medication

A few years ago, studies were conducted on the effectiveness of using infusion treatments for fibromyalgia using lignocaine. Lignocaine is a local anesthetic that is often used to sew up cuts. Results were mixed at best and there were some adverse effects on the patients who use this type of treatment. However, local injections of cortisone or analgesics at trigger points have been found to successfully relieve the pain of this condition, and are frequently used when other forms of therapy are not effective.

Holistic Infusion Treatments

Another treatment is a holistic remedy known as alkaline infusions, which inject a cocktail of trace elements, minerals and antioxidants directly into the body to counter the ill effects of fibromyalgia. Treatments are often given with other methods like hydrotherapy, magnet therapy and an infrared sauna treatment. Many patients who have undergone a complete regimen will see significant relief from painful symptoms that will even allow them to stop many of their medications and traditional therapies.

If you are suffering with fibromyalgia, you don't have to suffer alone. Talk to your doctor about choices in infusion treatment for fibromyalgia to find relief from your symptoms.
