Indigestion is a term that has been loosely used to describe many different stomach conditions. In fact, many people have confused many indigestion symptoms with that of other digestive tract conditions. This can be seriously dangerous since many people like to self medicate instead of consult a doctor. This is probably because they feel that indigestion is a trifling matter that does no happen often.

Indigestion symptoms are actually very common for many other conditions connected to the digestive tract, especially stomach conditions. These indigestion symptoms include, a burning sensation in the upper abdomen, abdominal pain, belching, flatulence, vomiting, heartburn, bloating of the stomach and nausea. If you look closely the listed indigestion symptoms, they are commonplace symptoms for other conditions, which is why it is important to consult a doctor for proper diagnosis. Self medicating can be dangerous or can address only part of the problem.

Indigestion symptoms are what the doctor bases his diagnosis on. Since not all indigestion symptoms are apparent when you go for your consultation, it is best to remember or take note what has happened to make you feel like you need a doctor's consultation. Out of the ordinary occurrences should also be noted especially if you think they are connected to your condition. Factors That Cause Indigestion

The foremost cause of indigestion and indigestion symptoms is eating something that did not agree with you. Some foods may be undercooked or may be too tough for your stomach to digest; these are some of the factors that can cause indigestion. Other causes of indigestion can be eating too much, not taking your meals at the right times, stress, pregnancy and many others. These factors can cause a host of indigestion symptoms to erupt causing you inconvenience and slight to moderate pain.

With the knowledge of indigestion symptoms and causes, you can actually help to reduce the occurrence of indigestion in your life. Cutting back on your food consumption and regulating it to small meals can drastically help reduce indigestion symptoms from bothering you. Reducing or eliminating smoking and consumption of alcohol will also improve your digestive system and reduce indigestion symptoms.

Remember, it is best to consult a doctor regarding your condition if you suspect you have indigestion problems. Self medicating may help you save money on consultation fees but can also be harmful especially if you misdiagnose yourself.
