Natural Healing: Herbal Remedies for Heartburn

Heartburn is common problem that affects nearly all of us at one time or another. For many, relief comes in the form of an over the counter medication like an antacid or an H-2-receptor blocker. Others prefer not to take the medication route, and try lifestyle and diet changes to control their heartburn symptoms. When neither of these paths to heartburn relief seems like the right one for you, there is another option. You can check out the herbal remedies for heartburn that you can find at your neighborhood pharmacy or health food store. There are three herbs that are commonly used for heartburn; chamomile, ginger and peppermint.

Chamomile

Chamomile is a favorite herbal remedy for heartburn because it is soothing and relaxing for the entire body. Because of the high calcium content in chamomile, it is able to effective decrease stomach acid and reduces heartburn symptoms. Chamomile is also a good herbal remedy for heartburn because it can promote healing of the esophageal lining when damage occurs. You can take chamomile in a supplement or drink it in a tea, which is the most popular form for most of us.

Ginger

Ginger has long been used for a variety of digestive ailments, and is also good as an anti-nausea medicine. Many people will take a ginger supplement when they are flying or taking a cruise to reduce the risk of motion sickness. Ginger is also a good herbal remedy for heartburn because it has anti-inflammatory properties and promotes spontaneous movement throughout the intestines. You can find ginger in supplements, as a tea and in the actual sugared root that you can suck on like candy.

Peppermint

Peppermint also has anti-nausea properties, as many pregnant women have found in trying to treat morning sickness. Peppermint works well as an herbal remedy for heartburn because it can calm the digestive system and heal indigestion. It has been found that peppermint is especially effective in treating heartburn when it is used in tandem with caraway fruit. You can drink peppermint tea or take a supplement of this herbal remedy for heartburn.

Heartburn is a common ailment that strikes nearly everyone at one time or another, but you don't have to suffer through the painful symptoms. And relief doesn't have to come in the form of medication if you would prefer alternative therapies. There are many effective herbal remedies for heartburn that will keep the painful condition at bay so that you can enjoy more symptom free days and nights.
