Gluten Free Diet No Longer Means Having To Eat Those Bad Tasting Foods

Times have indeed changed, because at one time needing to follow gluten free diet was like kissing goodbye to the fun filled culinary delights, and eating was confined to a few food items that were free of gluten. What was worse, the foods that contained no gluten generally had awful taste and were also very dense as well as dry and there was also no alternative available. Thus, given that gluten is present in many processed foods, sticking to gluten free diet meant giving up on many eating pleasures.

Many More Alternatives To Choose From

However, there are now better alternatives and having gluten free diet today is a lot different than it was in the not too distant past. In fact, today gluten free diets have become part of mainstream foods, and with better means of producing foods, there are now many gluten free foods available that are of a very high quality.

Gluten is a protein group that is mainly found in wheat and also in barley and rye, and to a lesser degree in oats, and it is responsible for keeping dough elastic and strong in products that have been baked. In addition, wheat flour is found in a number of processed foods other than in simple baked foods, and so if you wish to stick to gluten free diet, you must look closely at what the different processed food and baked food labels say with regard to the presence of gluten to be sure that you are not eating anything with gluten in it.

There are some people who must take only gluten free diet and among such individuals are those who suffer from celiac disease, who when they consume foods with gluten have many gastronomical discomforts such as bloating, gas and also diarrhea. And, some experts even believe that sticking to gluten free diet helps in certain other medical conditions such as autism, multiple sclerosis and also depression, though there is no real scientific evidence to prove that this is indeed the case.

Today, if you walk into any grocery store you will be pleasantly surprised to find many foods that are suited for a gluten free diet, and another outlet for such foods is of course, health food stores and certain specialty markets. And, if you want to shop online for foods well suited for gluten free diet, then you can do a Google search for "gluten-free foods" and expect a good deal of information. So, today there is no longer the bad tasting gluten free diet that you need to consume, as with many more alternative and pleasant gluten free foods available, you can still remain free of gluten and still love it as well.
