Recognizing GERD Without Heartburn

GERD without heartburn is very rare, as the primary symptom experienced by sufferers of the GERD condition is heartburn. If you suffer from GERD and would like to know how you can turn your condition around to be GERD without heartburn, then there are several steps you are going to have to take.

Diet

Diet is definitely one of the first and most important aspects to consider if you want GERD without heartburn. This is because certain foods are aggressors to this type of condition and so you will want to remove these foods from your diet. You will want to stay away from greasy and fatty foods, as well as citrus fruits and drinks, as all of these are going to add to the amount of acid in your stomach thereby worsening your symptoms.

Specifically some foods that you should avoid are sour cream, ice cream, cottage cheese, spaghetti, chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes, French fries, tomatoes, lemons, orange juice, brownies, chocolate, corn chips, potato chips, salad dressing, and alcohol.

Exercise

Exercise is also important here, and vital if you want GERD without heartburn. You should be getting at least a half hour of moderate exercise each day, and even if that means that you just take a quick walk around the block, you are going to be benefitting.

Stay Healthy

So you may feel better now that you have made the necessary lifestyle changes, but just because you are feeling relief now this does not mean that you can just go back to living the way you were before and expect to continue to feel this way. If you return to your old lifestyle your condition is going to return and be as severe as it was before and all your hard work will have been to no avail.

It is important that you continue on with these positive changes in your life if you want to have GERD without heartburn and that you stay as healthy as you possibly can.

When you are dealing with a condition as serious and possibly permanently damaging as GERD, it is important that you take it very seriously and take every necessary step, not only to getting the instant relief that you are looking for but more importantly finding a long term solution that is going to prevent your symptoms from recurring in the future. Just remember that although your condition may be very serious and painful it is treatable so you can get back to feeling like your old self again.
