The Issue of Failed Vasectomy Reversals

All surgeries come with certain risks and one such risk is the risk of failure. While all the precautions possible can be taken and the best surgeons in the word can be utilized, there always comes the risk that a surgery simply may not work as was originally planned.

In the realm of vasectomies, there is the undesirable situation of a failed vasectomy reversal. The procedure of a vasectomy reversal is a tricky surgery and it is not always a guaranteed success when the procedure is undertaken. As such, the possibility of a failed vasectomy reversal is a dark cloud that hangs over the procedure.

A Brief Overview

In some instances, the failed vasectomy reversal has been known to result in a series of lawsuits for malpractice. The court's finding in such cases is varied as there is generally no black and white decision as it relates to a failed vasectomy reversal. In a way, it is difficult to ascertain the odds of success in vasectomy reversal surgery and this inability to predict the outcome has an impact on the court's findings in such a matter.

So What Are Some of the Reasons for the Failures?

So what is it that caused these failed vasectomy reversal surgeries? That answer is very difficult to provide as each failed vasectomy reversal surgery has its own specific mitigating factors and they must be taken on a case by case basis so as to examine how and why the failed vasectomy reversal was a failure.

Many times, the specific physiology of the individual who had gone under the knife (so to speak) is a possible motivating factor in the reason behind a failed vasectomy and/or a failed vasectomy reversal. As such, the patient was simply not the type of candidate that a successful outcome would have even been a possibility.

The other factor in a failed vasectomy or failed vasectomy reversal falls upon the incompetence of the physician. While many times, the physicians are falsely accused of malpractice, there always remains the possibility that the physician was negligent in his or her duties.

To try and predict whether or not the surgery will be a success or a failure is not usually practical as there are just too many factors involved. What one can do is hope for the best and try to pick the best possible surgeon available and hope one's genetics are good enough to endure the results.
