Ejaculation After a Vasectomy - What Every Man Needs to Know

Any man who chooses to have a vasectomy procedure performed is bound to have a number of questions about the surgery itself, as well as what his life will be like after the vasectomy is completed successfully.

One of the major areas of questions and concern for most men is what ejaculation after a vasectomy will be like. Will he be able to perform in bed for his partner? How long will he have to wait to have intercourse? Will the act of ejaculation be any different now that there are no sperm in the semen? These are valid questions, but some men might be a little uncomfortable talking in the openly about this.

Some Questions Answered

Sperm, as you very well may know, is produced in the male testicles, and in normal situations they will pass through the urethra and are ejaculated during sexual intercourse. Once a vasectomy is performed, however, the sperm is prevented from mixing with the semen by blocking the sperm ducts. Ejaculation after a vasectomy is still possible, but the semen does not contain the sperm that is necessary for fertilization of the egg.

In the initial days after the vasectomy, a normal patient will experience some swelling and discomfort in the genital areas for at least 72 hours after the operation. Usually a bag of ice and lying down in a bed is sufficient enough to ease the discomfort of the individual. During this time, ejaculation after the vasectomy is not recommended.

It is recommended, however, that the patient still use alternative birth control such as a condom or female-controlled birth control methods for at least the first twenty to thirty ejaculations after a vasectomy. This is because the semen that was produced before the procedure can survive for six months or more, and potentially cause an unwanted pregnancy. In fact, your doctor will most likely ask for samples of the semen obtained during the ejaculation after a vasectomy to verify the success of the surgery.

Of course, in approximately three to six months time, the sterilization that was desired through the vasectomy should be complete, if everything has gone according to plan. As a man, there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to perform and ejaculation after a vasectomy should not be a problem. If a problem arises, however, be sure to bring it up to your doctor, and between the two of you, a solution will most likely be found.

Hopefully this short essay has shed some light on how little the ejaculation after a vasectomy is changed for the individual patient. Even though a vasectomy will change your life, there is every reason to believe that it will not affect your enjoyment of it.
