Diabetes Management with the Right doctors

If you have been diagnosed with diabetes you probably are overwhelmed by the overload of information that you have been told and will continue to be told. Being diagnosed with diabetes is not a death sentence. Diabetes management can easily be done by you and your doctors. There are a few main doctors you should consider when putting a medical team together to provide the care you need for diabetes management.

Doctor #1

Putting together a team of medical professionals that will look out for you best interest is step one. A primary physician is the first doctor you want to have on your list. Make sure this doctor is one you like and trust and has treated or is treating other people with diabetes. Also, a doctor who keeps up on all the new medical developments of diabetes is the best to have. If your doctor does not keep up with the evolving new trends of diabetes then a specialist may be best for you. These specialists are known as a diabetologist, one who specializes in diabetes.

Doctor #2

Another medical professional that will be beneficial in your diabetes management is a certified diabetes educator. You will be taught the basics of diabetes and how to deal with this disease. You will also be taught how to administer insulin or any other medication your physician has you on. If your doctor does recommend a specific educator for you, there are resources out there such as the American Association of Diabetes.

Doctor #3

The next member of your team of medical professionals should be a registered dietician. A diet for diabetes management is crucial to keep the diabetes at bay and cutting down on the complications in the future. Your physician can also help when deciding on a dietician.

Doctors #4-6

The next three members of your medical team should be an eye doctor, dentist and podiatrist. Your eyes, teeth and feet are all affected by diabetes. These doctors are all very important because they can effectively help with your diabetes management and help prevent the side effects from affecting these parts of the body.

Diabetes management can be a complex and perplexing task to deal with. However, with these medical professionals the management of your diabetes should be easier to grasp. With these doctors you have the ability to live a normal life with a few minor differences than the life you led before.
