Cholesterol is a waxy, fat like substance found in our cells and blood stream as well. Cholesterol is important for our body as it produces a number of hormones and some cell membrane therefore; in order for our body to be healthy we need cholesterol. At the same time too much cholesterol can clog the arteries and cause coronary heart disease, which in turn can lead to heart attack.

Our body produces cholesterol but we also accumulate it through the intake of various food products such as: egg yolks, poultry, butter, cheese, whole milk and so on. There are two types of cholesterol and they are: low-density lipoprotein (LDL), which is the bad cholesterol and high-density cholesterol (HDL), which is the good cholesterol.
