Childhood Trauma: Understand How The Events Of Our Past Affect Our Present Lives



There are two types of trauma according to medicine. First, trauma can be defined as that critical or serious bodily injury, shock or would and second, in the psychiatry, it could mean an emotionally painful, distressful or shocking experience that produces long term metal and physical effects on the patient. Whether your childhood trauma is caused by the by serious physical injury or an emotional painful experience, there is a big possibility that the effects brought about by such incident will have a lasting effect on your personality.

Childhood Trauma And Personality Disorders

According to studies, personality disorders usually stems from some childhood trauma. A people who have witnessed domestic violence, child abuse, suicide of a loved one and many other painful events while they are young would often times be unable to fully recover from their childhood trauma that they end up with some kind of personality disorders. Although some children who have suffered childhood trauma would eventually recover and live normal lives when they grow up, there are many of them who would carry with them the mental anguish of their painful experience.

Childhood trauma is something that should be taken very seriously. According to experts, children who have been subjected to some very painful experience would often times remember and relieve their ordeals. Typically, the more violent or painful the event may be, the more traumatized the child will be.

 



In many cases, as a child continue to relieve his or her childhood trauma, he or she would soon develop a defense mechanism that would enable him or her to cope with the situation. If not properly recognized and treated, childhood trauma may lead to some personality disorders, as the child grows older. Depending on the cause of their childhood trauma, a person may develop some forms of morbid aversion or unreasonable fears towards something that is closely related to terrifying experience.

Coping With Childhood Trauma

More often than not, an unresolved childhood trauma would affect the social and emotional well being of a person as he or she grows up. Many people who have experienced trauma will have difficulty in coping with their daily lives, as they grow older. If a person starts to manifest some emotional or psychological disorders due to trauma, he or she should seek professional help immediately. Going into therapy would help a person understand his or herself better and then eventually come to terms with what happened in the past.
