Child Day Care Centers: Are They the Right Choice for Your Family?

After a person has children, it may be a very difficult decision for them to decide whether or not one parent should stay home, or if they should use a child day care center. Child day care centers have become a hot topic in the media the last several years. The question of whether or not a mother in particular should stay home with her children has been the focus of this debate.

Unfortunately, even though many parents would like to, not everyone is able to afford to quit working entirely after they have kids. Also, many people enjoy working at like to continue to be able to do so in some type of capacity, even after they have a family. Many people believe that having a family and having a career are not two mutually exclusive options.

Other Options

While a person's options may seem relatively straightforward in this type of situation, there are more than two options. It is not a matter necessarily a whether or not a mother or father should quit their job and stay home or continue to work to help support the family, there are other choices. These options can allow parents to spend more time with their children and still be able to have two incomes.

One potential option would be telecommuting. Certain employers will allow their employees to telecommute, especially if they have small children at home. Of course the key to this type of position may be becoming invaluable to your job prior to starting a family. There are other options with telecommuting jobs; however they may not pay as well as one that starts as a standard position.

Another option that employers are helping with is employer-run daycare. Employer-run child day care centers are becoming more and more popular every year. This allows parents to have their child cared for at a day care they are familiar with that is in their office. This allows for the convenience factor of parents being able to go visit their children during lunch breaks and regular breaks. It also eliminates long commute times to other child day care centers and they allow parents to spend more time with their children.

These options can allow many parents to spend more time with their children and still bring in a second income, if they either do not wish or cannot afford to quit work. While not everyone can avoid child day care centers completely, there are options that can give families the best of both worlds.
