The Advantages of a Breastfeeding Pillow

If you are or are planning on being a breastfeeding mom, the matter of a breastfeeding pillow is one of great importance to you.

What is a Breastfeeding Pillow?

The breastfeeding pillow is actually one of the newer baby products on the market, and it is a U-shaped cushion which is designed to fit around the mother's waist, in order to support her baby as she nurses. Basically the breastfeeding pillow helps to lift the baby up to the proper height, while at the same time creating ease and comfort for both mother and baby.

The breastfeeding pillow helps by putting less strain on the mother's back, and it can also be used to assist fathers with feeding the baby as well.

Basically, a breastfeeding pillow should cushion your baby without being too soft, as you want them to have a remotely firm surface in order to protect them from getting smothered in any way. Therefore, your baby's head and body should be supported in a position that comfortably allows them to nurse, and a good idea is to look for a breastfeeding pillow that has a zippered cover, since your baby is going to be lying on it and nursing several times a day, it will obviously get messy and therefore need cleaning; the zippered cover allows for easy removal and cleaning.

However, the breastfeeding pillow is not only used for nursing, as every time you sit your baby on the pillow, they are receiving support so that they can sit up on their own. Also, your baby will enjoy crawling and climbing around on the pillow when it is on the floor, and even when they're much older, they can use the pillow for resting on while reading or watching television, for instance.

Of course no one needs breastfeeding pillows, but as to the comfort and ease they provide, they are an excellent option. In fact, for the majority of moms they are considered as being lifesavers. However remember that not all breastfeeding pillows are the same, and so therefore you must take a little bit of time and consideration when shopping for one of these pillows in order to make sure that it is what you are looking for.

Breastfeeding pillows are usually quite inexpensive, and generally you can find them at any store that has a baby center in it, or you can shop online and have a multitude of options right at your fingertips.
