What to Expect from Botox Injections

Thanks to cosmetic advances that have been made in recent years, we no longer have to settle sporting lines and wrinkles as a part of the aging process. Today, there is a virtual plethora of choices on the market to reduce wrinkles and leave skin plumper, hydrated and younger looking. One of the most popular anti-aging treatments as become Botox injections.

With minimum preparation and a relatively small amount of time, your doctor can provide injections that will eliminate many of your wrinkles and greatly diminish the rest. This procedure can be done right in your doctor's office and is often completed over a lunch hour. If you decide that Botox injections are the answer to your anti-aging pursuit, it will help to know what to expect on the day of your treatment.

Are Botox Injections Right for You?

The first step in preparing for your Botox injections is to talk to your doctor about whether this is the right choice for you. Botox is not appropriate for women who are pregnant or nursing. It is also not a good idea for patients who suffer from various neurological conditions. If you and your doctor agree that Botox injections will work for you, the next step is to schedule the appointment for your treatment.

On the day of your appointment, you will probably be asked to show up a little bit early to fill out paperwork and answer a few questions. Some doctors will have staff trained in skin care, like licensed aesthteticians or nurses that will prepare you for the procedure and provide you with all necessary information. You will also be asked about possible allergies and other criteria that may prohibit you from having the treatment done.

During the procedure, you will probably sit in a reclining chair, much like the ones you find in the dentist's office. Some doctors will numb the area before beginning the Botox injections. The substance is injected under the skin using small needles in the area where the wrinkles are located. Positive results will be seen in as little as three to seven days, and side effects are minimal. These might include bruising at the sites of the Botox injections, a headache for 24 hours after the procedure or temporary eyelid drooping.

If Botox injections sound like something you would like to try, talk to your doctor about whether you are a good candidate for this procedure. If so, you should be able to enjoy the results of your Botox injections for 4 to 6 months after. At that point, you can opt to have another series of injections if you like. Botox injections are an effective way to turn back the hands of time for many women, with little side effects and great results.
