A Guide to the Bipolar ConditionAbout the Bipolar Condition The bipolar condition is one of great complexity and detail. It is certainly not new, but the incidence statistics of the condition have been rising steadily over the years. In terms of diagnosis of the bipolar condition, like any other mental illness, it is not actually able to be identified physiologically. Instead, a diagnosis is made on the basis of the experienced symptoms and the course of illness, and family history as well. The experiencing of suicidal thoughts is quite often related to the diagnosis of the bipolar condition, as the majority of people suffering from the condition tend to have suicidal thoughts and tendencies. Risk for suicide seems to be especially greater earlier on in the illness, usually before the person has even had time to get diagnosed properly and had any treatment recommended. Signs and Symptoms There are certain signs and symptoms of the condition that are important to watch out for, and if you ever experience one or more of them you should notify your doctor immediately, before things get worse. Even if it turns out that you do not have bipolar disorder, at least you took the time to get checked out, as the saying goes, better safe than sorry. Treatment When it comes to treatment of the condition, prescription medication is the most commonly recommended method. Medications known as mood stabilizers are usually prescribed which work to help control the disorder and the symptoms involved with it. Children and adolescents who have the disorder are usually treated with lithium, although other medications are used as well. The particular medication that you should use will depend on a variety of factors, and can only be properly determined by a medical professional. This is why it is so important to work so closely with your doctor with a condition such as this. This way, they can understand about your particular bipolar disorder condition and thus make the best determinations for you and your life. |
