What You Should Know About Attention Deficit Disorder And Academic Learning

Attention deficit disorder is a very commonly diagnosed condition in the world today, one that is indicated when children display inappropriate inattention, impulsivity, and sometimes hyperactivity as well, for their mental and chronological age. There is no single known cause of attention deficit disorder but rather many, and it is therefore one that needs to be taken very seriously into consideration.

Does Attention Deficit Disorder affect Academic Learning?

The connection between attention deficit disorder and academic learning is one of great importance, and especially because it deals with children whose academic learning is of significant importance.

Attention deficit disorder and academic learning is a relationship that all parents should be aware of, and there is a basic criterion that is used to diagnose a condition of attention deficit disorder condition. The first is inattention as the child will often fail to finish things that they start and they are also easily distracted.

They will also often be impulsive and act before thinking. They may shift excessively from one activity to another and grow bored of things incredibly fast. Even when playing with other children you will most likely see that they are acting differently and are not as interested in the things that other children are.

Hyperactivity is another part of the criteria used for diagnosing attention deficit disorder and affecting academic learning, although attention deficit disorder may be diagnosed as with or without hyperactivity. They may run or climb about on things excessively and seem more excited than the other children. They do not seem to tire out as much and most children who are diagnosed with an attention deficit disorder and have trouble with academic learning are under the age of seven.

If you ever notice that your child is displaying any of these symptoms you should get them in to see the family physician as soon as possible so that you can have them examined and determine whether or not they do have attention deficit disorder. This can usually be determined pretty quickly with the tests that are available today.

If your child does have attention deficit disorder then you are going to have to learn to deal with the condition appropriately, and more than anything this means that you are going to have to have patience. Children with this disorder can be incredibly trying and you are sure to get frustrated. Just remember that it is not something they can help and you need to work with them to help them with their condition.
