An Acupuncture Specialist Needs Years of Study and Treatment Experience

Acupuncture is a powerful means of restoring a person's health and mind and is increasingly being given recognition in the United States as well as in most of the Western World. It is very effective in changing people's lives and works through release of blockages in the qi of the body. Qi is the energy or life force that makes its way through the passageways of the body and modern research points to qi as being a form of bio-electricity.

Acupuncture works on the patient and helps them to recover physical and mental harmony and its popularity has given rise to more opportunities becoming available for acupuncture specialists. In order to gain mastery over the various aspects of acupuncture, one needs to study a specialized course and on completion may become an acupuncture specialist.

National Board Certification is required

The acupuncture specialist is also known as a Licensed Acupuncturist and should hold a national board certification in acupuncture that has been issued by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM). In order to become an acupuncture specialist one needs to study for three to four years and should also have more than 3,000 hours of training.

When choosing an acupuncture specialist, one should ensure that he or she has a full time practice and has sufficient clinical experience. It is not only the hours of practice put in by the acupuncture specialist that is important but also the number of patients treated successfully and the more experienced the acupuncture specialist is better and faster results will be obtained.

There are plenty of acupuncture specialists available and one need only check the yellow pages or go online to find one closest to you for getting acupuncture treatment. Once the acupuncture specialist has been located, one can go to him or her for further treatment, which may include treating obesity, arthritis or joint pains or whatever other ailments that can be treated using acupuncture.

Whatever is the root cause, once it has been successfully identified, the acupuncture specialist would then get to work on treating it and that may involve inserting needles into different areas of the body in order to better the functioning of the body in way that will provide relief for the patient.

In the case of an acupuncture specialist who is undergoing treatment for weight loss, he would probably use a multi-targeted approach and this may involve lowering the body weight through increasing the output of the pituitary glands. This might involve reducing the craving for some types of food and by placing needles in certain placement points. The acupuncture specialist can even be able to lower insulin levels or lipid levels that are contained in the blood.
